  George E. McMahan s.w.a - w.a.

George E. McMahan was born June first, 1926 near Roundup, Montana. The crash of 1928 forced the family to move to Klamath Falls, Oregon. At an early age George became acquainted with what was to become his major subject matter:  horses and birds.

George has been actively painting in the fine art field for fifty-four years. He attended five art schools. George majored in medical illustration completed his B.P.A. at the Art center of Los Angeles and followed up at the University of California, where he observed both surgeries and autopsies.

“I found medical illustration unrewarding and turned to the calculator field for fifteen years.” comments George. “Being a night person, I painted a lot, taught painting in San Jose and sold my paintings in the San Francisco bay area.” In 1969 George moved his family to Klamath Falls Oregon where he opened the Pioneer Gallery that he used as a home base. He painted, taught, and traveled to compete in the major art shows on the west coast.
